Chris O'Brien, business columnist at the San Jose Mercury News, was the only daily newspaper journalist to win a prestigious Knight News Challenge award. He presented his findings at the New Communications Research 2008 conference today.

More than 80 million people in the Philippines have a mobile phone. Text messages are free or 1 peso each. Filipinos send a billion text messages a day, or an average of 12.5 each.

MMS: Oysters on the bbq

One of the best meals I had in California was at Marshall near Pt Reynes. Here the cook shucks oysters prior to putting them on the barbie. The oysters came from nearby Tomales Bay. Delicious served with alcohol-free beer and local bread.

Prof Mike McKean of the University of Missouri in the United States. Mike chairs the convergence sequence. He was speaking at the convergence curriculum conference at AUT in Auckland. He has an Apple iPhone.
